As you read the article, take copious notes: main argument (claim), sub-arguments, ethos of magazine, organization/structure of text (why information presented in a particular order--effectiveness of organization), understandability, purpose(s), theme(s), specific examples, tone, rhetorical strategies, context as it relates to America today, why the author wrote the article, whether you agree or disagree with the author on different points, counterarguments posed by the author, counterarguments you might present, questions for discussion, what you might delete or add to the author's article. I am not asking you to submit any of the above, but I am requiring you to take copious notes that address each point in this prompt. I will call on you in class. Be prepared. Thank you.
The point of this assignment is to be able to generate a good discussion. Think of creative questions about the article for your peers.
