Goals:
- To develop writing, reading, and critical thinking skills
- To foster an appreciation of literary texts
- To help students understand the different genres of writing (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, the short story, the novel, speeches)
- To help students understand the effects of Globalization
- To prepare students for college and/or the world of work
- To facilitate knowledge of current events
- To prepare students for the SAT and the ACT
Types of Activities: Writing, reading, and discussion; oral presentations; student-led class discussions; group work

Materials Needed for Class: 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, pen, pencil, stapler, three-hole punch, highlighter, and a folder

Priorities for this Year:
- Study for and take the SAT and the ACT.
- Investigate post-secondary opportunities (college and careers). Utilize Naviance.com and Collegeboard.org. English IV students should apply to college if desired.
- Maintain an excellent GPA.
- Work on application and scholarship essays (especially English IV).
- Work on completing Community Service hours.
- Create a resume.
- Investigate internship opportunities for the summer.
