ENC1102: Assignments for the Week of April 27, 2020

Please read every post very carefully (twice if needed). There may be a lot of important information in each post.

Print out and annotate these stories. Highlight important sentences. If there is not enough room for annotations on the printout, write notes in your binder. Focus on how different types of literary rhetoric (organization of plot, details, characterization, dialogue, imagery, mood/tone, shifts, setting, figurative language, connotations of diction, etc.) support a theme. Indicate page numbers, paragraph numbers, line numbers, as appropriate. Also do the "Shorter Analysis Activity": https://scholarmulhern.blogspot.com/2019/11/analysis-of-text-shorter-version.html. Please type your Shorter Analysis Activity, as you may need to email it to me or upload it to Canvas. Do not send any work until I request it.

A Message from Ms. LaPorte

From Ms. LaPorte:

The district has created a centralized location for all technical support. If you are having a problem with your BCPS issued laptop, call 754-321-0569 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Be sure you are logging in via SSO/Clever every day. You should also be checking all of your Canvas courses on a daily basis. Trying to keep track of assignment and test due dates can be a little tricky, so you may want to go old-school and have a paper desktop calendar to write everything down to help keep you organized and manage your time wisely.

Seniors, a video message and letter was sent to everyone through Parentlink about the virtual graduation ceremony plans. It would have been sent to your BCPS email and to the parent email that is registered with the school. I did not see it on the BCPS webpage, but the letter is on the ATC High School Webpage. I don’t know much more than what is in the letter, but I will let you know any additional information as I find out more. Refunds for Grad Bash, prom, and the dance are being processed and mailed to your homes, so you should see a check soon. We are trying to put together a couple of other things as well. I know none of this will make up for what you have missed, but we are working to try to give you some positive memories.

Stay strong, support one another, and look forward to the future,

Ms. LaPorte

REMINDER FOR ALL CLASSES

Hi Scholars,

I hope you all are well. I wanted to give you a heads-up. I will be asking for some type of response to readings for the week of April 20 and for the week of April 27, so try not to procrastinate.

ENC1101: MyLabsPlus Final Reminder

Hi Scholars,

I wanted to send this final reminder that all MyLabsPlus modules must be completed by April 26 at 11:59 p.m. There is no room for flexibility past that time. I have no control over that platform.

Any modules not completed will automatically get a zero. Your grade may lower dramatically. Again, the grade you currently see posted on MyLabsPlus does not take into account the incomplete modules.

I hope you all are well.

Best,

Mr. Mulhern

ENC1101 and ENC1102: Required Courses from the State

Hi Scholars,

The state of Florida requires that all students complete the following courses: K12 Prescription Drug Safety, AlcoholEDU for High School, and Mental Wellness Basics.

By this Friday, you will receive an email with an invitation (required) on how to complete the work for these courses. Teachers were told in a meeting that the workload can be as much as five hours.

After you receive the explanatory email, you will have to log in to EverFi through Clever. The courses must be completed by May 12.

Remember, this is required work. Ms. Castelli and Mr. Beames will be monitoring completion of the courses.

I hope you all are well.

Mr. Mulhern

From Ms. LaPorte--

"Virtual" Attendance Reminder AGAIN (Originally Posted on 3/31)

Hi Scholars,

I am posting this message again. Many students are NOT logging into SSO every day. You MUST log on every day. This is how the district is keeping track of your attendance. If you do not log in and click on every class, you will be marked absent. You may find no additional assignments or announcements but check just in case. You must log on every day until the very end of the year and click on every class.

ENC1101: MyLabsPlus

Hi Scholars,

Please remember to keep working on MyLabsPlus. Heed the deadline posted on the site. A few students have encountered problems when they log in; they can't see the modules. If you have this issue, try refreshing a few times and waiting.

I contacted our representative for the learning platform. He told me that MyLabsPlus is working on all issues. The problem seems to occur more in the evening and at night. Perhaps your working on the program in the early part of the day will alleviate any issues.

I am thinking about you and hope you and your family are well.

Mr. Mulhern
