ENC1102: Assignments for Week of April 20, 2020

Please read every post very carefully (twice if needed). There may be a lot of important information in each post.

Print out and annotate these stories. Highlight important sentences. If there is not enough room for annotations on the printout, write notes in your binder. Focus on how different types of literary rhetoric (organization of plot, details, characterization, dialogue, imagery, mood/tone, shifts, setting, figurative language, connotations of diction, etc.) support a theme. Indicate page numbers, paragraph numbers, line numbers, as appropriate. Also do the "Shorter Analysis Activity": https://scholarmulhern.blogspot.com/2019/11/analysis-of-text-shorter-version.html. Please type your Shorter Analysis Activity, as you may need to email it to me or upload it to Canvas. Do not send any work until I request it.

Due Tuesday, April 21, 2020: "The Necklace" https://fac.ksu.edu.sa/sites/default/files/the_diamond_necklace.pdf

Due Wednesday, April 22, 2020:
"The Blue Hotel" https://americanenglish.state.gov/files/ae/resource_files/the-blue-hotel.pdf

Due Thursday, April 23, 2020: "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" https://www.wlps.org/view/2546.pdf

Due Friday, April 24, 2020: Review all readings and assignments--annotated texts, analysis activities, notes, etc.

In addition, check Canvas every day. Use SSO for attendance every day. Sign in every morning. Sign out every afternoon. If you do not log on SSO and check all classes daily, you will be marked absent.

If you are unable to print the texts, please read them on an electronic device. Make sure you have copious notes in your binder (indicate page numbers, paragraphs, line numbers) when referring to different sections. Of course, it is preferable to have a printed copy of the text.

Remember that you are required to do all the assignments (you are a college student). Not all work in this class is graded. I will tell you when and if to upload particular assignments. Do not send me assignments until I ask for them. If I do ask you to send an assignment, you will be directed to upload through Canvas. I could ask you to upload an assignment by 11:59 p.m. the day it is due or any day after that. Type all assignments. Create backup copies of assignments. Always save your work in case I ask for a particular assignment at any time in the future. Check this website at least twice daily (9:05 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.) for announcements and assignments.

Reminder: If you email me, please state your name, your class (ENC1101 or ENC1102), and your period within the email. Also, you need only email me in one place--through the school email or through Canvas. I check both places. Thank you.

Reminder: Be sure to click on "Announcements" in Canvas (left side of the screen--menu with white background, just under "Home.") Also remember to click on "Home." Click on both "Home" and "Announcements" every time you sign into Canvas. And, of course, check for "Assignments" that need to be uploaded. Thank you.

Be well.
