JFK Inaugural Address Actitivity



  • Copy the following terms and definitions--
     
        alliteration--repetition of same consonant sound beginning a 
        sentence or phrase

        anaphora--repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of 
        successive phrases, clauses, or lines

        anastrophe--transposition of normal word order

        antithesis-- the contrast of ideas or words

        assonance--repetition of vowel sounds in successive words

        consonance--repetition of consonant sounds within words or ending 
        words

        metaphor--implied comparison through a figurative, not literal, use 
        of words

        parallelism--the arrangement of words, phrases, clauses with 
        similar grammatical structure placed side by side

        paradox--a statement that seems self-contradictory, yet turns out
        to have a rational meaning

        repetition--a word, phrase, theme, idea, or metaphor used two 
        or more times

        pathos--using emotion-arousing words or ideas

        allusions--references to past events, historical documents, or 
        important people
