You will write a short film review (at least a page and a half, typed, MLA format).Paragraph one should begin: "My favorite scene (or aspect) of the movie [insert the complete title of the film in italics] is . . . . " The second paragraph should begin: Another scene (or aspect) of the movie I enjoyed is . . . " Be sure your paragraphs are at least seven sentences long with very specific references and elaboration on key scenes/aspects of the movie.
When you watch a movie that you need to review in an evaluation essay, here are some aspects to consider:
- plot
- acting/characterization
- music score (soundtrack)
- sets/setting
- costumes
- theme(s)
- the believability of character actions or plot points
- imagery
- foreshadowing
- camera angles (wide shot, close-up, panning, etc)--see link: https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/ultimate-guide-to-camera-shots/
- how organized (order of scenes)
- cinematography (Cinematography is the art of photography and visual storytelling in a motion picture or television show.)
- dialogue
- scenes that are weak, strong, or could be omitted
- scenes that could be added
- climax of film
- ending of film
- mood
- shifts
- time sequence (is it easy to follow or jarring?)
You must have typed or handwritten notes in your binder (that you took while watching the movie). These notes may be collected at any time (not just the due date) for a grade.
