Important Reminders for All Classes
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Pay attention to the blue dates within the posts. Ignore the black date above the post.
- You must follow the exact directions in each post. If you do not, points will be taken off your work.
- All work should be neat, legible, and well-organized, whether typed or written. Your work must follow the MLA format exactly. Important words in titles should be capitalized. Short story and poem titles should be placed within quotation marks. Follow the MLA format precisely. Click on this link, which also appears on the right side of this website: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_sample_paper.html. Points will be taken off work that is messy, illegible, disorganized, or work that does not follow the MLA format exactly. Grammar mistakes will affect your grade as well. Show pride in your work through its presentation. Use the rubrics posted on this website to check your assignments: https://scholarmulhern.blogspot.com/p/rubrics-for-writing-and-reading.html.
- You are responsible for keeping a printed-out or (if allowed) written document of your assignment in your binder for the entirety of the semester.
- Assignments could be collected at any time during the semester for a grade. If you do not have the work, you earn a grade of zero. Your leaving the assignment at home or not having time to print it out is not a valid excuse.
- You cannot be held in a class by another teacher unless that teacher calls me and gets my permission. Tell the teacher you must show up to my class on time. If the teacher writes you a pass without calling for my permission to hold you in his/her class, you will be sent to Portable 14, where you will receive a detention.
- If you are absent, you must copy the agenda from a trusted peer for the day you missed. You are responsible for doing the Word-of-the-Day activity for the day you were absent. I could ask to see the agenda and/or vocabulary activity for any day at any time during the semester. If you do not have the agenda or the Word-of-the-Day activity, whether or not you were absent is irrelevant. You will earn a grade of zero.
- You must make up any work you did not complete because of an absence within two days. If not, you earn a grade of zero. It is YOUR responsibility to tell me the exact title of the work you missed (get from a peer) and tell me you need to make it up. It is not my responsibility to remind you.
- Much of your work will be posted on this website. However, often I will tell you the assignment in class and/or write it on the board. Be sure to write the assignment down with the due date. I do not have the time to write everything on this website.
- If a post has a PDF file, you should print it out. My distributing a copy of the reading is not guaranteed. You have plenty of time between when the assignment is posted and when it is due to print it out. Coming late to class because you had to print out a text, even with a pass, earns you a grade of zero.
- Annotate any reading assignment (when specified) appropriately. Any paragraph with more than three sentences should have a highlighted or underlined portion of the text with a note in the margin. Simply highlighting or underlining without a margin note is NOT annotating. See the notes on how to annotate posted on this website (via links).
- Remember to check this website twice daily. Scroll through the first three pages looking for work that pertains to your class. (Each page is approximately 15 posts.) Read all the posts carefully.
- All of this information has been stated many times to you. All of this information is already posted on this website--"Class Rules and Expectations" tab at the top of the website.
- Thank you for adhering to these reminders.
